Innocence Project of Minnesota

Koau Fong Lee served three and a half years for vehicular homicide. Sherman Townsend served ten years for home-invasion burglary. Michael Hansen served six years for second degree homicide of his infant daughter. All three men have been exonerated, freed from prison, after being wrongly convicted and sentenced within the state of Minnesota. Working with the Innocence Project of Minnesota, I was given the opportunity to photograph these men during their interview sessions in June of 2012. Patience and thoughtfulness pours out in their presence and in their stories. They trustingly share these stories in hope that organizations like Innocence Project of Minnesota will not only reverse, but prevent innocent people from serving time. Koau Fong Lee is a student, husband and father. Sherman Townsend is an R&B singer and father. Michael Hansen is a tattoo artist and father.
